Preventing Exploitation: a frontline perspective on creating a better future for children and young people vulnerable to exploitation, county lines and knife crime.
We wanted to understand why young people are vulnerable to exploitation and to find alternative routes to enabling these children get their emotional needs met. We therefore brought together about thirty professionals from across Surrey who work closely with children who have been identified as at risk from exploitation to have a discussion about the issues.
(The best way of getting this information would have been direct conversations with young people who are being exploited today. However, for a number of obvious reasons, this was not viable).
Please see the resulting report by Surrey Youth Focus, we hope that you will find this useful and informative. The Exploited and Missing Children’s Board will be overseeing the delivery of actions, which will be taken forward by a cross-sector group of agencies. If you would like to be a part of this, please email Su Freeman who will pass your details on.
Thank you very much to David Munro and the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Surrey for funding this work and to the 30+ professionals who gave us an afternoon of their valuable time.
