The programme is recognised both nationally and internationally and is highly regarded by employers because it demonstrates a young person’s willingness to take up a challenge, to persevere and to achieve across a broad range of activities.
The Award, like Youth Work, through a voluntary association with young people, offers inclusive opportunities for them to develop, which are:
Educative - the Award encourages young people to fulfil their potential, both as individuals and as members of groups and communities through the development of new skills, knowledge and understanding.
Expressive - through creative physical and challenging activities, the Award encourages young people to explore their capabilities and express themselves.
Participative - participants in the Award are encouraged to share responsibility and to make decisions that affect their own and other people’s lives.
Empowering - the Award enables young people to understand their influence and responsibility so they are able to contribute positively to their community.
