Surrey Youth Focus AGM & Networking Event - 17th September 2013

Members, Associates and Partners of Surrey Youth Focus braved the September rain to attend the 2013 Surrey Youth Focus AGM and Networking Event.

Held at the enchanting Walton Firs Activity Centre, Cobham attendees toured the facilities to see ‘The Beatles’ Yellow Submarine, indoor caving experience and assault course, before the official proceeding began.

Lord Baden-Powell gave the welcome address, followed by a short presentation from John Young, Assistant Warden at Walton Firs. John invited any recognised youth organisation to get in touch to see how their group could make use of the excellent facilities.

There followed the AGM, chaired by David Hypher OBE DL. New Trustees were elected to the board including some exceptional young trustees. Mike Abbott CEO also thanked member organisations for their continued support of Surrey Youth Focus and excited the audience with talk of new Innovations such as CommUniLAB and the Social Enterprise.

Jon Boagey, Deputy Chief Exective of the National Youth Agency was next on stage, outlining the key elements in the Governments ‘Positive for Youth’ , the NYA work and recommending members to seek out information on the new Institute for Youth Work and Youth Work Foundation.

The evening concluded with the much anticipated ‘prime ministers stairs’ networking, where members enjoyed meeting new colleagues and sharing information about how they “improved the lives of young people”.

A good evening all round.
