Skill sharing
Skill sharing sessions aim to develop stronger local connections and enhance knowledge among multi-agency practitioners working with neurodivergent children and their families in Surrey. These sessions provide organisations with a platform to share valuable skills and insights with the wider children’s workforce, promoting collaboration and shared learning.
Session One – Supporting Parents
The first skill sharing session, delivered by Barnardo’s, focused on the theme of ‘Supporting Parents.’ Drawing from their parenthood programmes in Surrey, Barnardo’s shared key insights on:
-
Earning trust through positive engagement with parents and carers of neurodivergent children.
-
Understanding the unique challenges faced by these parents and carers.
This session offered practical strategies and created a space for practitioners to learn from Barnardo’s experience in supporting families effectively. Session Two – Support in Schools
In this session, delivered by Surrey STIPs (Specialist Teachers for Inclusive Practice), they shared skills and learning from their own work within schools. The questions explored were:
- How do we work effectively with each other to develop the most inclusive environments for all children?
- How can we use a person centred approach when supporting children with neurodiversity needs?
- How can we share this good practice across our organisations?
